Almost 2 years ago, when I went to Kerala, Dubai/Abu Dhabi, Rome and Tuscany, I also went to Venice. The picture above is the classic view you get in Venice and it honestly was the most picturesque city I had ever been to. However, Venice is a city you can do in a few hours so on the train ride from Rome to Florence, we made a stop in Venice (bought the 7am ticket from Rome to Venice and the 7pm ticket from Venice to Florence) so we could explore the city and we still got the full experience. We left our bags at the train station- they store luggage for about 6 euros a bag. It was well worth it and 6 hours was the perfect amount of time!
We headed over to the ever so gorgeous St. Marks Square. There were tons of people sitting outside eating or enjoying the view. It was so Italian! Venice is definitely small enough to where you can walk everywhere and why wouldn’t you want to with the gorgeous views!
At St. Mark’s Square, we went to St. Marks Basilica, the Clock Tower and Piazza Giovanni. We also sat and enjoyed the views, got lost walking around and went street shopping. The gelato at La Mela Verde was to die for along with lunch at a cute Venetian restaurant tucked away in the more gorgeous street corner: Antico Forno.
Our evening ended with of course a scenic and romantic gondola ride on the canal. This was literally the only reason I wanted to go to Venice and it was well worth the 6 hour stay over. After the ride, we roamed around and ate dinner from a shop while we headed back to the train station. That’s Venice in a nutshell…until next time Italia!
