SHE Down in aSHEville
Last year for Valentine’s Day my husband and I took a mini trip to Asheville, North Carolina to celebrate our first Valentine’s as a married couple (WHO Down in WHOville). I had been to Asheville twice prior to that- once on a family trip and once on a ski trip. This time I really got to explore it a little more and fell in love with it. If you’re looking for a quick weekend Valentine getaway- Asheville, NC is one of the best kept secrets in the South!
We stayed at one of the most romantic small inn’s called the Grand Bohemian Hotel. It was very cozy with a Southern/mountain feel which was perfect since Asheville is nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains. And of course- they had a complimentary wine tasting.
The scenery is gorgeous with the mountains in the back. This would make for quite a romantic drive on Valentine’s Day with your one and only bae.
The Biltmore Estate is of course housed in Asheville. It is a gorgeous and extravagant mansion built by George Vanderbilt II and is the largest private owned home in the country. The chateauesque architecture is simply breathtaking. The wineries are gorgeous (make sure to go wine tasting early on it fills up quickly) and they have the most delicious dip mix packets.
Downtown Asheville is very cute and sophisticated. Asheville is most definitely known for its’ food. We had a Valentine’s dinner at Cucina 24 which was sophisticated and lounge-like. We went to Eat Girl Eatery and Tupelo Honey Cafe for brunch which were both amazingly good. We also ate a snack at the Gourmet Chip Company where they have some of the best flavored chips.
